Empties: July 2013

This July has been an extremely busy month, so I am really looking forward to my upcoming vacation. As I leave tomorrow morning to pick up my travel companion from London Heathrow, I want to share my empties of the month today.

Review: No7 Stay Perfect Mascara (Black) and GWP

I picked up this No7 Stay Perfect Mascara in Black earlier this month. This new release by the No7 brand debuted in June and today I want to share my thoughts on this mascara.

Review and Giveaway: MUA Power Pouts x 6 [Closed]

Two things have been consuming my life for the past couple of weeks. The first is the deadline that I have just fulfilled this morning. The second is my love for lip crayons. I recently picked up all 6 colors of MUA Power Pouts and today I want to share my thoughts on these drugstore gems.

Review: Collection Work the Colour Eyeshadow Pencil (Vanilla Sky & Vintage Blush)

When I swatched these Collection Work the Colour Eyeshadow Pencils in Vanilla Sky and Vintage Blush in the drugstore, I was really impressed with the color payoff. I was sold when the colors didn't smudge when I tried to rub the swatches off my hands. I have only previously tried the Lasting Perfection Concealer from Collection, and that concealer is so good that I would love to try out other products from the brand. As these eyeshadow pencils are new launches, they were only £2.50 each (will increase up to £3.19 after this month), so it couldn't hurt to try them.

In the Mail: Glossybox July 2013

This month's Glossybox arrived yesterday morning and its summer Seaside Splash theme fits perfectly with the heat wave we are experiencing in the UK. This month's box is definitely a step-up from June 2013 Box. The packaging is beautiful and the products look just as good.

In my box:
  • Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist (25mL)
  • Anatomicals Spray Misty for Me Facial Spritz (100mL, full size)
  • Coola Mineral Face SPF 20 Unscented (7mL)
  • Essie Sleek Stick in 05 a to zebra (full size) [Review Here]
  • Sleek Pout Paint x 2 in 162 Milkshake & 163 Peek-a-bloo (8mL, full size)

I received 6 samples instead of the usual 5 (or am I supposed to count the 2 Sleek Pout Paints as one?) with 4 being full-size products! Reviews coming soon!

As I have naturally wavy hair that frizzes to volume on its own, I probably won't be getting much use out of the Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist.

I will be taking the Anatomicals Spray Misty for Me Facial Spritz with me on vacation in two weeks time. It contains lavender and peppermint extracts and is suitable for all skin types. It can even be used over make-up as a setting spray. I will definitely be putting these claims to the test.

The Coola Mineral Face SPF 20 Unscented sample is part of the brand's Organic Suncare Collection. This facial sunscreen is hypoallergenic, parabens-free, and contains antioxidants. Aside from sun protection, I would be very happy if it lives up to its pore-minimizing claims.

Essie Sleek Sticks are new launches from the brand and 05 a to zebra is a black-brown zebra-print. I haven't worn such dark colors on my nails in years, so I don't see myself putting it to use anytime soon. Let me know if you would like to try it out!

I'm a little on the fence about the Sleek Pout Paints as I am on a lip crayon craze at the moment. These lip pigments are meant to be mixed to brighten other lip colors. I am curious to how the electric blue color (163 Peek-a-bloo) would turn out, especially since blue tints make the teeth look whiter!

I am quite pleased with this month's box and the 4 full size products are valued at twice the monthly subscription fee. I can't wait to try things out!

Update (September 18, 2013): The Alterna Mist did not do much for me when I wear my hair down. The effect is more obvious when I tie my hair up, it makes my ponytail look more lightweight and shinier. Still, I probably wouldn't get much use out of it.

Which of these products would you like to try out?

Review: NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil (New Lover)

I picked up this NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in New Lover from the 2013 London IMATS. This is a gilded coral pink lip gloss that I have been wearing almost everyday for the past two weeks. Today I want to share my thoughts on my first experience with lip gloss in a pencil.

Review: NYX Round Lipstick (LSS599 Fire)

This NYX Round Lipstick in Fire is one of those products that just drew me in. When my friend and I saw it at this year's London IMATS, we both went for it without even swatching the tester.
This is a super creamy and pigmented red lipstick with a blue undertone (makes teeth look whiter!). One swipe is enough to achieve the color of the lipstick tube. For a full bold red lip to look its best, I rely on a precise application for a cleanly defined look. For a more subtle look, I just dab this lipstick in the center of my lips and blend out. Precise application is less of a necessity since the lip color won't pop as much.

Regardless of how I apply the lipstick, the vivid look does soften after a couple of hours. However, the color doesn't fully wear off until I remove it at the end of the day. The formula is nonsticky and the taste and scent are not distracting. This lipstick lasts at least 6 hours on me and does not dry out my lips.

At a couple of pounds, this lipstick is fantastic value for the price. I can't wait to try out some other colors from the NYX Round Lipstick range.

Have you tried any NYX round lipsticks?
