London IMATS 2013

Yesterday, I made the trip to London to attend the 2013 International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS). This is an annual event where make-up enthusiasts gather to try out products and learn tips from the pros. Today I want to share my trip and my IMATS experience.
Since I was up quite late the night before, I boarded the train to King's Cross with only 3 hours of sleep. Hence, ironically, I went to IMATS without a trace of make-up on my face.

I usually find Starbucks Caramel Macchiato to be too sweet, but I needed the caffeine and sugar to wake me up during the 25 minutes tube ride to Baron's Court.

I met up with a friend at the tube station before walking to the Olympia National Hall together. Given we both had to get up early to catch our trains into London, we got lost on the way. Despite the detours, we queued, verified our online tickets, got our wristbands, and were inside the exhibition venue by 10:45am.

Review: Shiseido White Lucent Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream

I have been using this Shiseido White Lucent Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream since I got it in December as part of my Sephora Haul. This photo of the untouched product was taken in December. Now that I am down to the last few uses, today I want to share my thoughts on this eye cream.

This eye cream comes with a beauty spatula that I somehow lost in my first month of use. Just a pea size amount of this rich formula is sufficient to smooth over the entire eye area. My eyes do look brighter immediately after application, probably owing to the light-diffusing properties of the cream. I would have preferred a squeeze tube, but that isn't a major deterrent.

This eye cream smells heavenly! I am actually on my second tube of the Brightening Cleansing Foam (which I actually didn't really like the first time around, no idea why I bought it again) from the same line, but I didn't realize just how much I like the scent until I tried the eye cream.

In short, I would recommend this eye cream if you want something moisturizing, but don't expect it to deliver on the anti-dark circles claims. Although its effects on my dark circles is negligible, its moisturizing effects has earned it a spot in my daily regime since the beginning of the year. I only use this eye cream at night, so this jar would last me around 6 months. The insertion recommends use in both morning and night, so perhaps I would have seen more results had I adhered to the recommendation.

This eye cream retails for $68 CAD for 15mL. Although I do like it, dark circles are my main concerns at the moment. I may repurchase in a couple of years when I prefer more moisturizing products.

In the Mail: Glossybox June 2013

This month's Glossybox is definitely a disappointment. When the theme is claimed to be Summer Looks, I expected neons and pops of color. However, the products I received were not even remotely close to being bright. This box was delivered last Saturday, but I was only able to pick it up on Thursday. Today I want to share what's in my box and my first impressions.

Review: Bourjois Volumizer Mascara (01 Noir Maximizer)

I picked up this Bourjois Volumizer Mascara in 01 Noir Maximizer when there was a £3 off promotion on the product. This is a 2-step mascara that claims to prime the eyelashes with the step 1 brush and then further build volume with the step 2 brush. I have been using this for the past two weeks and today I want to share my thoughts.

Review: Soap&Glory It's About Prime (Bright Light)

I picked this Soap & Glory It's About Prime Eyeshadow Underbase in Bright Light in May. Had I swatched this in store, I probably wouldn't have bought it. Since I already own it, I was determined to make it work. Luckily, this happens to be a great product that didn't take much effort on my part. Today I want to share my thoughts after using this primer for the past couple of weeks.

London Skincare Haul!

After over a month and half of rushing deadlines, I finally took a break for a day trip into London yesterday. Today I want to share the skincare products I picked up while in the city.

I picked up DHC Revitalizing Moisture Strips (Eyes) [Review Here] from Beauty Mart on the 3rd floor of Harvey Nichols. I have been wanting to try DHC products for years, so I am very glad to find a retailer that I can 100% trust the authenticity of the product. Beauty Mart feels a little out of place among the designer clothes racks and would probably fit in better on the ground floor with the rest of the beauty selection. The concept of the Beauty Mart offers select products from global brands. Some are niche products like DHC, while others are products that can be found much easier elsewhere on the high street.

In Selfridges, I picked up the Shu Uemura Whitefficient Clear Brightening Gentle Cleansing Oil [Review Here]. The cuteness of the brand's OB collaboration drawn me to the counter and I let the consultant talk me into making a purchase. Unfortunately the 150mL was not available in the limited edition packaging. I also received 3 trial packs of the High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil Advanced Formula that I am looking forward to try.

Finally, the French brand Bioderma arrived in the UK earlier this year and I picked up a travel mini 100mL of the Sensibio H2O micelle solution for sensitive skin [Review Here]. I have been hearing so many good things about this product that I want to see whether it lives up to the hype. I found this in Garden Pharmacy, which also offers a wide range of other beauty brands. Although I do find its regular prices to be slightly higher than other retailers, the store seems to run generous promotions. While I was in, the store was offering 1/3 off all Nuxe and 25% off all Avene products. Combined with its convenient location near Covent Garden, Garden Pharmacy is worth checking out for some good deals.

I will be heading into London again in two weeks for IMATS London! Any recommendation for products to pick up?

What have you bought recently? Have you ever been to IMATS?

Review: Avon SuperShock Gel Eyeliner (Black)

Gel eyeliners have been my go-to ever since I started wearing eyeliner. Thus when a pencil eyeliner promises the texture of a gel, I had to check it out. After testing it out for a couple of wears, today I want to share my thoughts on Avon SuperShock Gel Eyeliner in Black.

Review: Sanctuary Spa Masksx3

I picked up these Sanctuary Spa masks when my drugstore (or chemist as in the UK) had a 3 for 2 offer on the brand. I chose 3 travel mask sachets to get a feel for the brand's product ranges. Sanctuary Spa products originated from the namesake spa in London's Covent Garden. The last couple of months had been (and the next few months will continue to be) extremely busy and stressful. I was hoping for some at-home facials to pamper my skin and relax my mind. After trying out these masks over the past 3 months, I want to briefly share my thoughts today.

The masks I picked up:
  • Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask (15mL)
  • Sanctuary Spa Moisture Boosting Mask (15mL)
  • Sanctuary Spa Time Reversal Face Mask (15mL)

Review: Allura Nail Stamping Kits

I picked up my first Allura nail stamping kit recently when I found plate P21 astray in Poundland's stationary section. When I backtracked to the cosmetic section, there weren't any more in sight. A little disappointed, I paid for the one plate and went about on my way. When I popped into Poundland a few days later, I was able to find a few more plate designs. As I am now the proud owner of plates P21, P31, P32, and P33, today I want to share my thoughts on these nail stamping kits.
