NOTD: Nails Inc Vodafone Red

I received this complementary bottle of Vodafone x Nails Inc collaboration nail color from a vending machine at the Somerset House during London Fashion Week(end) [my brief coverage Here]. I believe this limited edition is still available at select Nails Inc locations until February 28th (that's tomorrow!).

This is my first bottle of Nails Inc polish and I am very, very impressed with the application. One coat was sufficient for smooth coverage and I added a second coat to reduce the VNL. A third coat would have ensured complete opacity, but I was running late this morning. Thankfully, the formula's drying speed was on my side. Vodafone Red is meant to capture the corporate colors of 2013 London Fashion Week(end)'s title sponsor, but the color is really nothing special. Nonetheless, I am happy to add it to my collection.

What are your thoughts on corporate collaborations with beauty brands? What are some of your Nails Inc. favorites?

Review: Korres Wild Rose Daily Brightening & Refining Buff Cleanser

This is another item I picked up as part of the Sephora Haul last December. I have been trying it out for the past 2 months and want to share my opinion today.

The wide rose scent is very pungent and heavy. Have you ever received flowers in the mail? The fragrance reminds me of a bouquet of roses stuffed in a box, then released after a few days. Although this is advertised as a cleanser, it does contain microbeads, thus for me, qualifies as a scrub.

The product claims that:
  • 97% of women saw an immediate improvement in skin’s radiance after one use
  • 97% of women saw improvement in skin smoothness after 28 days of use
I didn't notice much difference in the look of my skin after the first use, but I can definitely feel how soft it leaves my skin. Clean, fresh, but not drying. I can't provide direct evidence for the second claim since I don't use this cleanser everyday. Although the microbeads in this cleanser is not too abrasive, I still prefer not to scrub my skin everyday. From using it 3-4 days a week, I do notice a more even complexion after a few weeks. Although I like the results, I dislike the scent enough to skip on re-purchase. However, I am eager to try other products from Korres.

Review: Rosebud Salve in a Tube

I picked up this Rosebud Salve as part of a Sephora Haul that my friend brought to visit me in the UK last December. I am absolutely loving this lip balm, to the extent that I think it is the best lip treatment I have ever tried.

Gift in the Mail: Pierre Marcolini Malline Découverte Chocolate

Today I was gifted with Pierre Marcolini Malline Découverte chocolate assortment. Have you ever thought about hollowing out the inside of a book to make the perfect secret hiding spot? That's exactly what the packaging of this Belgium brand chocolate reminded me of, and I absolutely adore it! The chocolates are bite-size, so no mess dripping fillings when biting the truffles in half. The chocolate melts in seconds and the refined taste is pure perfection. I am in chocolate heaven.

Palm Court at The Langham

Following last week's installment of Prêt-à-Portea at The Berkeley, today I want to share my Dec 29th afternoon tea experience at the Palm Court in The Langham hotel.

While The Berkeley has more of a modern fashion twist, The Langham is the essence of a traditional afternoon tea experience. With pianist playing in the corner, grand chandeliers, and brocade-styled staff, The Langham claims to be the birthplace of afternoon tea more than 140 years ago. Although I must admit, I was more intrigued by the appearance of the hotel in Sir Conan Doyle's "A Scandal in Bohemia" where Sherlock Holmes was told that he could find his client “...at The Langham, under the name of Count Von Kramm". The hotel do make other appearances in the Sherlock Holmes series, of which I am a huge fan! Thus of course I made a trip to the tribute museum on Baker Street 2 days later (memories of queuing for more than 2 hours in the rain), but I digress.

I ordered the limited edition Asprey Bijoux inspired by the jewelry brand and my companion ordered the Winter Wonderland Christmas special.

Review: MAC Cleansing Off Oil

Have you ever noticed how the majority of make-up removers advertise themselves as "eye make-up remover"? Of all the removers I have tried, I could only recall Clinique's Take the Day Off being one specifically labeled as a remover for lip products as well. I wear lip products on a daily basis, and eye makeup much less often. My purchase of MAC Cleansing Off Oil was intended to finally establish a priority for removing lip products.

I like the pump for dispensing product as it is a lot more hygienic than those removers that require soaking the cotton pads against the opening. The smell of the cleansing oil reminds me of a lemony dishwashing fluid, I guess it is meant to clear makeup off like how dishwashing fluid clears dishes. Using two pumps per cotton pad, I massage through about 6 pumps and still found (faint) traces of gel eyeliner on my cleansing cloth later in the shower. I ended up waking the next morning with a stye, caused either directing or indirectly by the cleansing oil [Tip: If you don't have an extra face towel around like me, try soaking cotton pads in hot water and then hold it over the inflicted area. I used 3-4 cotton pads twice that day and my stye was gone the next morning!]. Luckily I didn't get any more breakouts on the following trials over the last 3 weeks.

To sum it up, I like the cleansing oil for removing lip products (only need 1 pump). I wouldn't use this cleansing oil for removing eye products anymore because it always causes my vision to blur for 5-10 minutes. At £18.00 for 150mL, I expected the MAC Cleansing Off Oil to gently remove everything, so I am a bit disappointed. I probably would not repurchase.

Have you tried MAC Cleansing Off Oil Before? What brands of cleansing oil do you love?

Pret-a-Portea at The Berkeley

On December 27th of last year (yes, it took me a month to blog about it), I checked out the Prêt-à-Portea afternoon tea at The Berkeley. Advertised as a Fashionista's Afternoon Tea, The Berkeley usually offers 3 options depending on if and which champagne you choose. Unfortunately during the holiday season, only the champagne options were available. Thus at 3pm, my companion and I checked in to our reservation and settled on the Champagne Prêt-à-Portea for £49 each.

Dr Jart+ Haul!

Asian brand bb creams are hard to find in the western mass market, thus I was very surprised to see Dr. Jart+ being sold at my local drug store. Chancing upon a 1/3 off offer, I picked up three products from the line for a total of £32.64.

Body Shop Haul!

Today I want to share the fruits of my trip to the Body Shop earlier this week. I had some trouble completing my online order for the neck gel, thus when I went into the high street store, I made up for the trip by picking up a few more items. Anyways, check out the haul below!
